DIY Whipped Body Butter

I have been wanting to make my own body butter for awhile and decided that with my mom's birthday tomorrow this would be the perfect time to try it and give some to her as a gift.

I looked up countless different recipes, pinned on my pinterest page here.  The recipe that I followed for the Cocoa Peppermint was found here on the Wellness Mama page.  I halved her recipe because I wanted to make two different body butters.  The Lemon Cream was found here at gi365.  I tweaked this recipe by using shea butter instead of the cacao, used no vitamin E oil, instead used grapeseed oil, and used grapefruit essential oil instead of the lemon.....so, really did I follow this recipe? I guess just the measurements :)  I know this one is going to be my favorite because I LOVE the grapefruit smell.

Here are pictures of the process:
Shea Butter

Shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil all in a "double boiler"

starting to melt

After melted and chilled it was time to whip in the Kitchen Aid.  This process took atleast 5 minutes on a high speed.  I did add a couple more tablespoons of solid coconut oil as I wanted the consistency thicker.  Appears I make my body butter like I cook, not really following a recipe

Picture of the ingredients.  I did not have any doTerra grapefruit oil so compromised with now.

Got these jars at Hobby Lobby during their 50% off sale.  Made my own labels.

Had enough left over to add to a small jam canning jar.  I added washi tape around the lid for some prettiness :)

I am the Diva Weekly Challenge #160: String Theory: Spiral out, Keep Going!

Worked on another spiral this morning as I am home with a sick kid AND it's snowing out, blah!

This weeks the Diva's Challenge is to use Spirals.
I LOVE playing with spirals....how can you mess up a spiral?  you CANT, that's why I like to use them.  I felt like I could have put more into mine, but decided to stop, keeping it simple.  May have to do another later this week ;)

St. Paddy's Day gift

Today I took some time to make several St. Paddy's Day "favors" for the girls at work.  Made some for my kids too but they don't know that yet, shhhhh ;)  I used the pot o' gold from the Silhouette Online Store which made it super easy.  Using my Silhouette Cameo I made two the original downloaded size then I decided to size the pot down a touch so I could fit two on one black piece of 8.5x11 cardstock.  Why waste???  I used left over green/white scrapbook paper for the shamrocks and pulled out strings of burlap to tie them on with.  I filled with Spearmint mints and then added some Rolo candies to the top.  I originally wanted to fill with just Rolo's but they are expensive so I figured something green under would work too! Aren't they just cute!

Laundry Room Baskets using my Cameo

FINALLY got the storage shelving completed in the laundry room :)  Didn't the boys' laundry baskets turn out GREAT?!!!! I used my Silhouette Cameo, love love, to cut out their self selected designs and their names.  I am hoping this will help to keep everyone's clean clothes sorted, organized, and where they can go grab their own individual basket.
I will post pictures later of the shelving....

Zendala Dare #93

On Monday The Bright Owl had
Zendala Dare #93 ~ snowflake surprise

I did several different takes changing my ideas to either go a more snowflake route or not even snowflake"ish" .... yes, I know that isn't a word :)

This one is VERY plain but I kind of like it and the shading

Not even close to resembling a snowflake but was fun to try a new tangle...
Haley's Hearts by Kathy Barringer

This one was a quick sketch...looks like reindeer antlers :)

Randomness

Completely random pictures...capturing the silliness and joy that small frozen things bring to me and my kids

Finished reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio today...good book! and a quote from it that I want my kids to live their daily lives by ~ thinking I will add it to the chalkboard on the fridge.

"always to try to be a little kinder than is necessary" pg 299
Seriously....This picture cracks me up!  Not really sure what he was doing, acting silly I am sure, and I captured it!
Left my water bottle in the car and Damen thought it was pretty cool how the water froze...had to get some pictures of it.  If you look at it, it REALLY is cool!  Awwww, the little things that amaze us!

Snowy, cold day so created another random grid tangle
